"Smoke and Shadows "

Smoke and Shadows

This popular class is now available on demand directly from Magic Threads. We start with the Smoke pattern but rapidly depart from there. She is a 26” doll with jointed elbow and knees. She has wired fingers, needle sculpted features, and eyelids and eyelashes. We start with velvet fabric, which is then embellished with all manner of fabrics, trims and scraps. The doll parts are then cut from this fabric. You will become addicted to this fun technique. You will receive the pattern pieces in the mail and the class instructions via e-mail. There are lots of color pictures and line drawings. There is no class digest but you can write to me with questions any time. You can print out the lessons and do them at your leisure..

Cost of the class is $50.

Online Class:

"Crone"

Two Crones

The Crones are my very favorite dolls to make because anything and everything is possible with these wise little women. We start with the Secret Keeper pattern. They are approximately 15” tall but may demand a 12” hat so nothing is rigid about them. They will quickly let you know who they are. The bodies are a basic stump design and the costume pieces can be adapted from whatever wonderful scrap of great stuff you happen to have. No rules, just fun. Patterns are mailed to you - the lessons come via e-mail.

Cost of the class is $50.

Online Class:

"Mother Nature"

Mother Nature is now an ongoing on-line class available directly from Magic Threads. There are 5 lessons that will be e-mailed to you. You will receive the pattern pieces by snail mail.

This is a 30" Tree Woman with intricately embellished details. Her legs are tree trunks created from quilted/collaged/painted fabrics. Her skirt is dyed lace with quilted leaves. Her branch fingers are wired for posing. The face is needle sculpted with eyelids and eyelashes. Her quilted leaf headdress is embellished with bead trim. She holds a cloth bird and twig bird nest.

Cost of the class is $50.

One-day classes are $70. and include the class pattern, kit and lunch.  Two-day classes are $120 with the pattern, kit and lunches provided.  I prefer using Buffalo Batt and Felt's Super Fluff stuffing.  I have 2 lb bags available here for $6.00 per bag if you wish to purchase some instead of bringing your own. You will need to bring a sewing machine and your basic sewing supplies. To sign up for the classes, just send me your name, address, phone number and class fee.  If you find that you must cancel, your deposit will be refunded if there is a waiting list for the space. After you sign up, I will send you a supply list, any home work required, and a map of this area with nearby motels marked.  Classes are from 10-5 in Urbandale (Des Moines) Iowa. Call or e-mail with any questions.

If you have a group that would like to come for a class, please give me a call at 515-276-8130. Groups from 4-12 can be accommodated on an individual basis. I can customize the class for your group and their particular needs. I can also come to your area for a class.
